This Is How Puerto Escondido Looks From The
Air
The beach that is located in the middle of the town of Puerto
Escondido is named Playa Principal. This is where most of the fishing boats are
moored. Fishermen come in every morning with their catch and sell it on the
beach. The ladies in small palapas will clean and fillet the fish that is
bought. Because the beach is calm it makes the water ideal for swimming. On the
east end of the small bay is Playa Marinaro. The boogie boarders and more
advanced swimmers take advantage of the waves there because they break bigger
than at the west end of the bay. On the west side of the bay is the port
Captain's office. He oversees the whole harbor and the coast of Puerto
Escondido. Farther along is the lighthouse and the walkway that is on the rocks
along the water. Walking in the other direction you will pass Playa Marinaro and then pass the rocks . On the east side of the rocks is Playa Zicatela. On Playa Principal are restaurants where you can eat and watch the comings and goings on the beach.
Zicatela Beach is where the world famous Mexican Pipeline is located. Surfers come from all over the planet to surf the waves that Surfer Magazine calls "One of the ten best surf spots in the World." Tourists from around the world come to lounge on the beach and watch the incredible talent of the watermen. Playa Zicatela is loaded with hotels and restaurants that keep the visitors comfortable year around. The Point is where women, children and old men surf. In the morning there are often fishermen on the beach with their nets attempting to catch that night's meal. There are also hotels, restaurants and bungalows there that make it a relaxing place to stay for a vacation.
Carizalillo Bay is located to the west of Puerto Angelito and
is one of the most tranquil places to swim in Puerto Escondido. Because the waves at this Bay are mild compared to Playa Zicatela it attracts
more than a few kids. Families come to enjoy the restaurants on the beach as well as the warm water. The restaurants have fish and tacos and tostadas and potatoes and soda and some very fine ice cold beer. There are palapas to sit under to avoid the sizzling sun and wooden chairs to sit on. Many people learn to surf at playa Carizalillo because the wave is easy and not very powerful. When the waves are breaking the bay is filled with kids and adults on surfboards and boogie boards having the time of their lives. During the winter there are not as many waves and it is possible to snorkel over the reefs that are located on both sides of the bay. The stairway that takes you down to the beach is 186 steps. Going up and down is a good way to burn off those beers that taste so good while you are on the beach.
Puerto Angelito is a small bay within walking distance from the
Adoquin and anywhere in Puerto Escondido. It is a small bay that is ideal for
families because there are more than a handful of restaurants that offer fresh fish that has been pulled out of the water a short time before and other delicious Mexican cuisine. The water is calm and safe for kids and grandmas alike. There are boats that will take people for rides to all the bays of Puerto Escondido. It is also possible to snorkel on the coral reefs that are located in
the middle of the bay and along the rocks. On the other side of Puerto Angelito
is Playa Manzanillo. Playa Manzanillo is a very small beach with calm water. There you can buy
refreshments, rent an umbrella and chairs and lounge on the beach. It does not
get any better than this. Puerto Angelito can be a pretty crowded destination on the weekends and during the holiday season because the water is calm and safe. It is not unusual for there to be a dozen busses loading and unloading tourists.
